Over the Counter STD Test

In Home STD Tests

Home STD testing has finally come of age with the reliable Over the Counter STD test offered by My Lab Box.

The company sends quality STD screening kits, discreetly packaged, to your home. The tests can be self-administered and take just a few minutes. You will just need to mail in a small urine, swab or tiny blood prick sample using the self-addressed envelope they provide.  You will get lab-certified results back by email in a few days (within 24 hours for some rapid tests).

Available Tests

My Lab Box Currently offers mail-in tests for

  • HIV
  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis
  • Hepatitis C

Cost

In addition to the convenience, these home STD tests are also very affordable. They run at about half the price of going to the typical doctor’s office, and prices are comparable with the services offered by the in-clinic STD Lab testing company we recommend.

Some individual tests from My Lab Box are a bit cheaper than the test center we recommend , but they lack the 10 test panel for $219 that the physical lab offers, which is hard to beat. Their STD 10-pack offer includes tests for Herpes and Syphilis, which are not currently available from My Lab Box.

Convenience

It’s pretty hard to beat the convenience of in-home / mail-in testing. You order on line, get your test kit delivered to your home (or office or PO Box). Mail back the test sample in the provided envelope and wait for an email with your results. You can also call in for your results.

Confidentiality

While these tests are not perfectly anonymous, they are a lot better than just walking in to a typical doctor’s office.  For one thing, you don’t need to go to a clinic at all. And fees are affordable enough that you don’t need to rely on insurance.

When you test through a health professional or in a lab and use health insurance to cover the high costs, every test that you do and their results are recorded in the Medical Information Bureau (MIB) database that every insurance provider in the U.S. has access to.  While your health insurance provider can no longer discriminate based on this information, every other kind of insurance provider has access to this data.

When using My Lab Box,  Only you will know the results of your tests. Share them whenever and however you choose (please use our free anonymous partner notification tool if you test positive). If you are non-negative for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea or Trich, the lab is required by law to report the result to the Florida State Board of Health.  However, this information is completely private.  No one is able to access this data, not even a spouse or family member.  The data is simply collected to track the prevalence of new infections. No other state or federal board notifications are made by My Lab Box.

As HIV is a rapid test that you do start to finish at-home, there is no reporting required.  Only you will know your results.

To give yourself an extra layer of privacy, you can

  • Have your test kit sent to a PO Box or other private address.
  • Pay with an anonymous Visa or Mastercard gift/debit card (available in most grocery stores, office supply stores, and even gas stations)
  • Use a new “burner” email address such as from gmail.com
  • You can review our Anonymous STD Guide for a detailed checklist of the ways you can protect your privacy throughout the process.
